Family and friends are keeping a tight lid on an incident involving James Small, whose doctor said today the former Springbok rugby star had had a nervous breakdown.
The family doctor, Murray Rushmere, said today that Small would need treatment in hospital.
Rushmere said Small also had minor injuries, but would not elaborate.
He said Small's former girlfriend, model Christina Storm, and Small's mother were with him at his home in Frere Road, Sea Point.
The doctor confirmed he had been called out to Small's home about 11.30am today.
Ambulances and a fire brigade medical rescue unit had also responded to the call.
Small and his former fiancee Storm hit the headlines several months ago after a well publicised break-up which led to Small confessing he had assaulted her.
During his rugby career Small was renowned for his short temper which at times landed him in hot water with the authorities. He has business interests in Cape Town.
