Academic excellence rewarded: Three Glen High learners receive bursaries from Time Square

Academic dedication and a passion for learning have earned three Glen High School learners bursaries to support their education and future ambitions.

Time Square has awarded each learner a bursary of R32 500 as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education and local communities, a gesture aimed at empowering young achievers to realise their potential.

The recipients are Botlhale Mahlangu, who achieved an impressive 82% average; Eunice Mungomba, with 85%; and Oreoluwa Omotobora, who earned an 84% average.

Outside the classroom, the Pretoria learners demonstrate equal commitment and enthusiasm in extracurricular activities. Mungomba, the top maths learner in Grade 8, also plays netball with great passion and has ambitious plans for the future. She hopes to study medicine and become a neurosurgeon.

Mahlangu, who joined the school’s debate team to challenge social standards, is considering a career in diplomacy, reflecting her desire to engage with global issues and represent her community on an international stage.

Omotobora’s academic record is equally impressive. She achieved first place in both Social Science and Natural Science, and was recognised as the most improved learner in Economic Management Sciences. With ambitions to become a doctor or dentist, she draws inspiration from Winston Churchill’s words: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

“The vision of The Glen High School is to be a superior institution of learning where all learners realise their full potential to become well-balanced and honest citizens, respected, credible, and equipped to meet challenges,” said principal Caroline Nel. “We are grateful to Time Square for enabling these learners to follow their dreams, which begin with a solid high school education.”

The bursaries were formally presented during a ceremony at Time Square in February, attended by the learners, their parents, and school officials. Ruben Gooranah, General Manager of Time Square, personally handed over the awards, emphasising the organisation’s ongoing dedication to supporting education in the region.

By recognising and rewarding academic achievement, Time Square hopes to inspire other students to pursue excellence and to reinforce the importance of education as a foundation for future success. For Mahlangu, Mungomba, and Omotobora, the bursaries are not just financial support - they are a vote of confidence in their talent, determination, and the promise of what lies ahead.
