Glenvista Primary steps into the future with tablet donation

Learners at Glenvista Primary School received tablets during a handover ceremony on Thursday, part of a national effort to expand access to digital learning tools in under-resourced classrooms.
The initiative, led by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, the Department of Basic Education and the Primedia Group, aims to bridge the digital divide starting at school level.
Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi and Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube officially handed over the tablets.
Both ministers stressed the role of technology in transforming education and the need to equip learners with the tools to succeed in a rapidly changing digital environment.
Bongumusa Makhathini, Joint CEO of Primedia OOH and Primedia Studios, said: “This occasion is not merely ceremonial; it reflects our collective commitment to dismantling the barriers that have historically limited access to information and technology. Each tablet represents a gateway to knowledge and opportunity for our youth. We are dedicated to ensuring that no child is left behind in this digital age.”
The handover underscored the role of technology in advancing educational equity. Primedia Joint CEO Bongumusa Makhathini highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and business, saying real progress depends on aligning policy with purpose. “Our journey towards transformation begins in our schools, with our children at the forefront,” he said.
As Glenvista Primary School integrates the new tablets into learning, the devices are expected to help students explore, learn and innovate, building both confidence and curiosity. The initiative is aimed not only at closing the digital divide but also at creating pathways to opportunity and dignity for all learners.
The ceremony reaffirmed a shared commitment to uplifting communities and ensuring that access to opportunity in South Africa becomes a right for every child - not a privilege for a few.
