This Women’s Day weekend, the historic town of Cullinan invites you to celebrate in true vintage style with the launch of the very first Cullinan Vintage Festival. Taking place on Saturday, August 9, this one-day event promises to be a joyful celebration of music, fashion, retro charm, and small-town spirit all set against the beautiful backdrop of one of South Africa’s most iconic heritage destinations.

Hosted at the colourful and truly unique Railways Café, the festival is designed to transport visitors into a world of nostalgia and celebration. With classic cars gleaming in the sun, the sound of vinyl records filling the air, and a vibrant atmosphere created by an exciting line-up of musicians and DJs, the event will offer something for everyone from vintage lovers and car enthusiasts to families and festivalgoers looking for a great day out.
Live music will play a central role in the day’s festivities. The line-up includes an eclectic mix of local talent, featuring performances by Pedro Barbosa, Miss Heidi, Jean-Claude Myburgh, Full Swing Band, The Black Cat Bones, and the SA Blues Society. DJs Michael Lesar and DJ Bob will keep the energy alive throughout the day, leading into my all-out 80s Tribute After Party once the sun sets. Yip, I’ll be dj-ing there too!
With two stages running across the venue, guests can expect 14 hours of non-stop entertainment.
Adding to the festival’s charm is a curated vintage market where guests can shop for unique treasures, vinyl records, retro fashion, and nostalgic trinkets. A photo booth will be available for instant prints, allowing festivalgoers to capture the memories of the day. Families are welcome, and the event is both secure and child-friendly, with free entry for kids.
Cullinan itself adds an extra layer of magic to the event. Known for its rich diamond mining history and old-world charm, the town offers visitors the chance to explore more than just the festival. From quirky shops and local galleries to cosy cafés and restaurants dotted along the strip and around town, there’s plenty to see and enjoy beyond the main event. The festival also encourages visitors to extend their stay and make a weekend of it. With a wide range of accommodation options available, from charming bed and breakfasts to stylish lodges, it’s the perfect opportunity for a relaxing mini-break.
For those travelling from Pretoria, the festival makes getting there even easier with a dedicated party bus departing from Railways Café Irene, offering a safe and social way to enjoy the day without the stress of driving.
Tickets are affordably priced, with early bird presale tickets available for R100 but you’ve gotta act quick if you want to take advantage of this deal and tickets are R150 at the door. Children under the age of 12 can join free of charge. Tickets are available online through Quicket.
The Cullinan Vintage Festival is brought to life by Michael Lesar Entertainment and Andre Kriel Productions, two well-known names in the local event and music scene. Their vision is to create a festival that not only celebrates women and vintage culture but also supports local artists, entrepreneurs, and the unique spirit of Cullinan. Can I get a whoop whoop?!
