Police have arrested three Mozambican nationals in Kingsway, Springs, after uncovering a suspected cross-border motorcycle theft syndicate.
The arrests took place on Monday, June 16, during an intelligence-driven operation by Crime Intelligence and the Ekurhuleni District Crime Prevention Unit.
Acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted the suspects at a property where two dismantled motorcycles had been wrapped in black refuse bags, apparently in preparation for transport to Mozambique. The suspects were also found loading a silver Yamaha Jet Ski onto a trailer attached to a white Toyota Hilux.
One of the suspects attempted to flee upon police arrival but was quickly apprehended. Preliminary investigations revealed that at least one of the motorcycles had been reported stolen earlier this month in Cosmo City, Johannesburg.
Police believe the three men, aged between 32 and 37, are part of a larger syndicate targeting motorcycles for smuggling across the border. Authorities are now pursuing additional suspects.
The arrested individuals are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
