The African National Congress took 24 out of 25 of municipalities in the Free State, getting eighty percent or more of the votes in eight districts after Wednesday's local government elections.
Results for the Dihlabeng municipality were still outstanding by 7pm on Friday at the Independent Electoral Commission's results centre.
Overall the party won 76,7 percent of the votes. The Democratic Alliance came in second with 12,47 percent followed by the Freedom Front Plus (FFP) with 2,70 percent of votes.
Of voters registered in the province, 47,23 percent turned up to make their mark. The highest turnout was recorded in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park where 69,46 percent of registered voters made their mark.
In the Xhariep district council (DC), the ANC won 78,02 percent of votes, taking five seats. The Democratic Alliance took one seat.
In the Motheo DC, the ANC won 73,54 percent of the votes and got 13 seats. The DA got three seats while the United Christian Democratic Party and the FFP each got one seat.
In the Lejweleputswa DC the ANC garnered 81,08 percent of votes, taking 12 seats. The DA got two seats, the FFP one.
In the Thabo Mofutsanyane municipality the ANC got 80,61 percent of votes and 13 seats. The Pan Africanist Congress (PAC), DA and Dikwankwetla Party of South Africa each walked away with one seat.
In the Fezile Dabi municipality the ANC got 74,23 percent of votes, or ten seats. The DA got two seats, the FFP one.
In the Letsemeng municipality the ANC got 74,19 percent of votes, taking eight seats. The DA and African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) each got one seat.
In Kopanong the ANC took 76,68 percent of votes, winning 11 seats. The DA got two seats.
In Mohokare the ruling party won 80,82 percent of the vote and got eight seats. The DA and PAC each got one seat.
In Naledi 64,04 percent of voters gave the ANC the vote. An independent candidate and the DA each got one seat.
In Mangaung the ANC got 71,51 percent of votes and 65 out of the 89 seats. The DA got 15, the FFP three, the UCDP and PAC two seats and the ACDP one seat.
In Masilonyana the ANC took 82,86 percent of votes and 17 seats. The DA got two seats and the FFP one.
In Tokologo the ANC won 76,49 percent of the vote and got six seats. The DA and the FFP each got one seat.
In Tswelopele the ANC got 75,24 percent of votes and 11 seats. In Matjhabeng the ANC won 78,75 percent of the vote and took 57 out of the 72 seats. The DA took 11 seats.
In Nala municipality the ANC won 84,68 percent of votes and got 20 seats. The DA got two seats, the PAC and FFP one seat each.
In Setsoto the ANC walked away with 81,09 percent of votes and got 27 seats. The DA got four seats, the PAC and FFP one seat each.
In the Nketoana municipality the ANC got 78,56 percent of votes or 14 seats. The DA got two seats while the PAC and FFP got one seat each.
In the Moluti A Phofung municipality the ANC won 80,36 percent of votes and 55 seats. The Dikwankwetla Party of South Africa got seven seats, the DA two and the African Christian Democratic Party one. The Inkatha Freedom Party, the PAC and the Azanian Peopleis Organisation (Azapo) each took one seat.
In Phumelela the ruling party won 80,08 percent of votes and got 11 seats. The Phumelelo Ratepayeris Association got one seat, as did the DA and the FFP.
In the Moqhaka municipality the ANC got 75,89 percent of votes and 38 seats. The DA got seven, the FFP, PAC and ACDP each got two seats.
In the Ngwathe municipality the ANC took 77,42 percent of votes and got 30 seats. The DA got five seats and the FFP and PAC one each. The Parys Ratepayers Association also got one seat.
In the Metsimahlo municipality the ANC got 65,41 percent of votes and 24 seats. The DA got eight seats, the United Democratic Movement two seats and the FFP and United Independent Front one seat each.
In the Mafube municipality the ANC took 75,05 percent of votes and got 13 seats. The DA, PAC, FFP and Azapo each got one seat. - Sapa
