Two men wanted in connection with at least four murders were fatally wounded in a shoot-out with police in Hillcrest on Saturday morning.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshuinda said police received information that the suspects were at a residence in KwaNgcolosi.
"When they arrived at the rondavel house in which the suspects were sleeping, a shoot-out ensued between the police and the suspects.
"Two suspects were shot and fatally wounded during the shoot-out."
He said the suspects were wanted in connection with at least four counts of murder within the Hillcrest policing precinct.
"This includes the recent double murder of an 84-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl."
Netshiunda said that no police officers were injured during the shootout.
He confirmed that cases of attempted murder of police officers have been opened for investigation.
Earlier this year, IOL also reported that five wanted suspects were shot and killed during a shootout with police in Inanda, north of Durban. Police said the incident occurred in the Bester area during an operation targeting suspects wanted for serious violent crimes.
The men were wanted for murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.
