The Garden Route District has witnessed a surge in law enforcement activity following the arrest of eight suspects linked to a series of unrelated murder incidents.
The police’s swift response and investigative efforts have led to significant breakthroughs in these violent cases across the region.
On Saturday, the Pacaltsdorp police were alerted to an altercation on Voëlnesvaring Street in New Dawn Park, George.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the body of a 25-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
"Despite the prompt arrival of paramedics, the victim was declared dead at the scene. Following investigative leads, police apprehended a 26-year-old male suspect, who is set to appear before the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Christopher Spies
In a separate incident, the Kwanokuthula police made an arrest on Sunday.
Spies said officers were dispatched to Ted Brown Street in Kranshoek, near Plettenberg Bay, where a man had collapsed.
He explained that medical personnel confirmed that the 26-year-old man also sustained a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 26-year-old woman, who was arrested in the area, remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court during the week ahead.
Further intensifying the police's efforts, a tracing operation conducted by the Riversdale police in collaboration with the George Public Order Police resulted in the arrest of six additional suspects, aged between 19 and 26, on murder charges.
These arrests are directly linked to the tragic death of 30-year-old Lourens Ntozini, whose body was found on Varkie Street, Riversdale, in April.
Ntozini was discovered with multiple injuries and succumbed to his wounds at George Provincial Hospital. One additional suspect, already in custody for an unrelated matter, will also be included in the upcoming court proceedings, bringing the total number of arrests in this particular case to seven.
