Johannesburg police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old woman, believed to be a lawyer, in the heart of the city’s CBD.
The incident occurred on Monday, March 23, at the corner of Fox and Joubert streets, near the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA).
Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that officers responded to a shooting complaint and found the woman’s body at the scene.
“The police received a shooting incident complaint. On arrival at the scene, members found the body of a 35-year-old woman who had sustained gunshot wounds. She was declared dead at the scene.”
According to reports, the woman, identified as a white female in her mid-thirties, had been shot three times in the head.
Sibeko said preliminary investigations suggest the victim was being followed by two unknown suspects who opened fire at her before fleeing on foot, leaving the 35-year-old woman fatally wounded.
“The motive for the attack will form part of investigations. No arrests have been made at this stage. Police are investigating a case of murder,” she added.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. Members of the public are urged to contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
