Two adults were rescued from a fire in a triple story building in the Boksburg area at Heidelberg and Reteif Streets in Ekurhuleni.

The City of Ekurhuleni's (CoE) Department of Emergency Management Services (DEMS) said heavy carbon smoke could be identified from a distance before arriving on scene on Monday afternoon.

Four fire engines and two water tankers were dispatched to the scene.

DEMS spokesperson, William Ntladi said: "On arrival, a two-bedroom, dining, and kitchen roomed flat on the second floor was well alight.

"Flames were already spreading to the neighbourhood dwellings through the ceiling section, which had no fire walls protection," he said.

"Two attack lines were used, and defensively, preventing the raging flames from spreading. All four rooms sustained intense fire damage, and the flats in the neighbourhood had smoke damage."

Ntladi said two men were found to have suffered smoke inhalation; however, one refused to be transported to a medical facility for treatment, and the other one was road transported by private ambulance services to the nearest medical facility.

The cause of the fire is not know at the moment and still under investigation.

IOL reported three fire incidents in the Ekurhuleni region in the past few weeks: the Germiston Home Affairs office, the Greyhound Bus Depot in Jet Park and a man who was allegedly set alight in a shack.

Three suspects have been arrested in relation to the Germiston Home Affairs fire incident; no arrests have been made in the Greyhound bus depot fire and the shack attack fire as investigations continue.

The police have condemned acts of vigilantism and vowed to have those who perpetrate crimes bite the dust.
