Johannesburg - The Constitutional Court is expected to rule on Tuesday in an application relating to a tender for the payment of social grants.
Last year April, the Constitutional Court ordered the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) to start a new tender process for the payment of welfare grants. It said the current contract holder, Cash Paymaster Services (CPS), should continue carrying out its obligations in the meanwhile.
To achieve this, the court suspended its declaration of that contract as invalid.
Sassa subsequently issued a new request for proposals, which CPS is seeking to have declared invalid.
CPS argues that certain requirements, including those relating to biometric cardholder verification methods, are vague and uncertain.
It contends that the request for proposals does not make it mandatory that the current provision of social grant services to beneficiaries must not be interrupted during the handover period.
