Three suspected murderers identified in a line-up have allegedly been linked to a spate of violent attacks across Gauteng, including armed robberies.
The three, Polite Ncube, 23, Qiniso Dube, 33, and Charles Ndebele, 22, were identified by several witnesses over the weekend during an identity parade at Pretoria Central police station. They are said to be members of the Diepsloot Terror Gang and were arrested in Hillbrow last month.
Ncube, who is the gang’s alleged kingpin, along with Dube and Ndebele, according to police are said to be behind five murders, four attempted murders and five armed robberies.
The gang is alleged to have been responsible for a spate of attacks on taverns and homes and businesses in Wierdabrug, Diepsloot and Hillbrow, including stealing a firearm from an off-duty policeman who was attacked while fixing a flat tyre on the N14.
Their identification comes after the arrest of three other alleged gang members in June following several attacks in the township, which one of the gang’s alleged members, Sibusiso Ncube, 22, was shot and killed by an off-duty policeman.
Police spokesman, Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, said the three were “positively” linked during an identification parade which was held in Pretoria over the weekend.
“They have been linked to various crimes committed in Wierdabrug, Diepsloot and Hillbrow. The three, who are in custody on five charges of murder, four charges of attempted murder, five counts of armed robbery, which include house and business robberies, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, will be appearing in court for a bail application on (Wednesday).
“The remaining three alleged gang members are currently being held in custody and all will be appearing in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon,” he said. - Pretoria News
