A senior rehabilitation centre manager has been found dead in his Tshwane home a week after he failed to arrive at work.

The discovery of 26-year-old Victor Mmamathele’s body on Sunday morning came hours after police arrested five men in the Free State who were driving his car.

Mmamathele was found in his Cullinan home after he failed to arrive at the Dr Fabian and Florence Ribeiro Rehabilitation Centre in Cullinan where he works.

Police on Monday said that a colleague, who became worried, began searching for Mmamathele.

At his house she peered through a window and spotted his decomposing body sprawled on the floor.

Police spokesman Johannes Jaftha said that when Mmamathele’s colleague arrived at his home she discovered his house was locked.

“While looking through a window she saw his body lying on the floor. The woman immediately called the police who discovered an open wound to his chest.

“While searching Mmamathele’s home, officers discovered that his car and some personal belongings were missing. A description of the car was circulated over police radios and the car was spotted with five men inside in the Free State.

“The men were immediately arrested and will appear in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder,” he said.

Jaftha said at this stage the motive for the killing and the cause of death were unknown.

“An autopsy will be performed this week to determine the exact cause of death,” he said. - Pretoria News
