A SOUTH African footballer has secured a full soccer scholarship to the University of Arizona in the United States, following a standout performance at the 2025 Engen Knockout Challenge.
Adrielle Mibe, who represented the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies, captained her team to victory in the Gauteng leg of the tournament. She was named both Player of the Tournament and Midfielder of the Tournament, capping off a three-year run in the competition.
“Playing at the Engen Knockout Challenge has always been a great experience,” said Mibe. “I’m happy I was able to end my stint with a victory alongside my teammates. I’m grateful to Engen for creating this platform where players like me can showcase our talent. I look forward to heading to the US, elevating my game, improving myself, and hopefully making it into a more professional league.”
The scholarship marks a significant milestone for Mibe and highlights the role of the Engen Knockout Challenge in creating pathways for young South African talent.
Tsholo Tiro, Brand and Sponsorship Manager at Engen, said: “Stories like Adrielle’s are the reason we continue to invest in platforms like the Engen Knockout Challenge. Her success is a reminder of the power sport has to change lives. As a brand, we’re incredibly proud to have played a role in her journey, providing a stepping stone for her to reach greater heights. We remain committed to empowering young talent across South Africa.”
Mibe’s achievement adds to the growing list of players who have used the tournament as a launchpad to further opportunities, both locally and internationally.
