Shannon Elizabeth was all set to dust off Buffy Gilmore’s heels and jump back into the "Scary Movie" madness, until, well… she didn’t get the call.
The 52-year-old actress, forever immortalised as the pageant-queen-turned-scream-queen in the original parody, recently spilled to "Entertainment Tonight" that she won’t be reprising the role for the franchise’s sixth entry hitting cinemas later this year.
“Oh, yeah! Absolutely. I mean, I was really hoping to be a part of it but I didn’t get the call.” she said when asked if she’d return. Ouch.
But, ever the professional fan-girl herself, she added: “But I’ll be watching it like a fan, with everyone else. I think watching everyone together again will be really special.”
The 52-year-old actress reflected on Buffy’s enduring appeal.
“I read the script and I’m like, ‘I like Buffy. She’s funny. She had all these quirky lines. She had physical comedy'. It was just something really different,” she said, highlighting what drew her to the character in the 2000 parody.
And who can forget Buffy’s beauty‑pageant moment in "Scary Movie"? There she is onstage, doing her ‘dramatic reading’ while a murder unfolds behind her, totally oblivious, and the judges are eating it up like it’s Broadway.
Her line, "Give me my crown, bitch!" has become iconic, the moment fans still quote at every signing, perfectly capturing Buffy’s hilarious charm.
Buffy’s iconic pageant scene, inspired by Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance in "I Know What You Did Last Summer", remains one of the most quoted moments from the original film.
“What stands out to me now is that I’ll do autograph signings at comic cons and stuff and people come up to me and they quote that scene and they know every word by heart,” Elizabeth said.
“I’ve had so many people just, like, melt my heart with how much they loved all of it.”
Fans will still see familiar faces, though: the Wayans brothers, Regina Hall and Anna Faris are all back to stir up the mayhem.
