Fresh off another Grammy win, Tyla has officially confirmed the title of her second studio album, and fans finally have a name to hold on to.

The 24-year-old singer shared the news backstage at the 2026 Grammy Awards, moments after being called up the stage for her second trophy for “Best African Music Performance” for “Push 2 Start”.

During her media interview, Tyla expressed her regret that she was unable to reach the Grammy stage in time to accept her award and deliver her speech.

When allowed to make up for that, she also dropped the announcement many had been waiting for. “I just want to announce something,” she said. “My sophomore album drops this summer, and it’s called 'A-pop'.”

She didn’t say much beyond that, but she vaguely revealed that the highly anticipated album is set for release in the summer.

In a separate interview with “Rolling Stone” ahead of the Grammys, Tyla opened up about what this next body of work represents.

She explained that her first album came together during a chaotic period where everything moved fast, almost overnight. This time, things feel more settled.

She said she now understands her direction better and feels clearer about what she wants to say. According to Tyla, working on “A-Pop” allowed her to slow down, experiment and trust the process, even when she didn’t have all the answers at the start.

“I feel like the first album, it was very hectic, it was a rush. It was like, all of a sudden, overnight craziness. So now that I’m settled in, I feel like I know more about my direction and what I want to do, what I want to say.”

The singer shared that she began working on the album in 2024, admitting she initially wasn’t sure what it would sound like. That changed as she lived through the making of it, letting the music take shape naturally.

She described the project as fresh, personal and very “Tyla”, adding that creating it made her feel like a real artist, not just someone caught up in the glamour of success.

“I just knew that as I lived through the making of the album, it was going to fall into place, which it did. I feel like I just did something really fresh, and so Tyla,” she said.

“When you’re in the rush of everything … you just only feel the glamour of it all. Which is amazing, but making something is so fun, and seeing it through, from beginning to end … I love building the world around things and just making it fun,” she added.

“A-Pop” will follow Tyla’s self-titled debut album and marks a new chapter for the singer, who has never shied away from defining her own sound.

While fans and critics often describe her music as popiano, thanks to her blend of pop, R&B and amapiano, Tyla has always referred to herself as an African pop star first.

She also hinted that this album reflects growth. Not a reinvention, but a shift that comes with time and growth.

“It’s going to be very different. Not really a new Tyla, just me now,” she explained. “I was 21, 22 when everything started. Now I’m 24. I feel like a woman. I have other things to say and other vibes I want to give.”

The album title wasn’t exactly new news for fans paying close attention. “A-Pop” briefly appears in the visuals for “Chanel”, flashing across the screen early in the music video.

Tyla might have left more easter eggs in her movement, possibly even hinting at collaborators and themes long before the official announcement.

While the album is set to drop in summer in the northern hemisphere, that release window places it in winter for South African fans. The global star also confirmed that more “popstar stuff” is in the works once the album is out, including touring.
