Tragic shooting in Muizenberg leaves three dead and one injured

Police are searching for the suspects involved in a triple murder in Muizenberg where two women, one male and another was left wounded.

Muizenberg residents woke to the horrific news that three people, two of whom are female, have been killed and a fourth wounded while police search for the gunmen and vigilance increased.

Police were called to the scene at Mike Place, Xakabantu at 11.30pm on Saturday where they found the bodies.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut explained: “Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of three bodies, one male and two females, aged between 29 and 32, at Mike Place, Xakabantu in Muizenberg late last night at around 11.30pm. 

“A fourth victim, a male, survived after sustaining a gunshot wound and managed to escape. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and detectives are pursuing all available leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“In the meantime, policing in the area has been intensified to prevent any further violence.

 “The SAPS appeals to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or to submit information anonymously via the MySAPS mobile application.’

Ward ​Councillor Mandy Mar said they were in communication with the police and that safety protocols were in place.

 “​My heart is heavy with the recent shootings that have brought so much pain and fear to our streets. To the families who have lost loved ones and to those who have been injured, my thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.

“This is a moment of deep sadness for all of us in Overcome Heights, Seawinds, Vrygrond, and Xakabantu. We all deserve to feel safe in our own neighbourhoods.

“​I want to be clear that my office is fully engaged with the situation. We are in constant communication with SAPS Muizenberg, who are investigating all these incidents and have called for backup to be in our area.

“I have been assured that they are giving due attention to the crime scenes and that these will be processed as quickly as possible.

“​This is a time for all of us to be careful. The situation is not stable, and we must all remain cautious and aware of what is happening around us.
